Voting Rights

Know Your Rights.
Protect Your Vote.

Every eligible voter deserves equal access to the ballot. Use this guide to prepare, respond to problems, and help protect voting access in your community.

Before You Vote

Check Your Registration

Confirm your registration status, address, party selection if applicable, and polling location before Election Day.

  • Check deadlines in your state.
  • Update your address after a move.
  • Save a screenshot or print confirmation.

Bring Required ID

Some states require identification. Know what forms are accepted before you arrive.

  • Bring backup ID if you have it.
  • Ask for a provisional ballot if there is a problem.
  • Do not leave without written next steps.

Know Your Polling Place

Polling locations can change. Verify the address, hours, accessibility options, and transportation plan.

  • Plan for lines.
  • Know early voting options.
  • Confirm mail ballot rules if voting by mail.

If You Face a Problem at the Polls

You have the right to ask questions, request help, and cast a ballot if you are eligible. If your name is missing, your eligibility is challenged, machines fail, or you are told you cannot vote, stay calm and document what happened.

You Can Ask for Help

Voters with disabilities, language access needs, or other assistance needs may request help. Assistance rules vary by state, but intimidation is never acceptable.

You Can Report Intimidation

Threats, harassment, aggressive questioning, armed presence, or misleading information can suppress votes. Report it immediately.

You Can Stay in Line

If you are in line when polls close, stay in line. In many jurisdictions, voters already in line must be allowed to cast a ballot.

Voting rights are civil rights.
